Seimei Shrine, Seimei Festival

The Seimei Festival at Seimei Shrine is held every fall at Seimei Shrine in Kyoto to honor Abe no Seimei, a renowned onmyoji (master of yin-yang) from the Heian period. Abe no Seimei was known for his expertise in divination, astronomy, and feng shui, and the shrine is dedicated to his memory.

The Seimei Festival is an occasion for many visitors to pay their respects to Seimei and pray for protection from misfortune and good luck. During the festival, traditional ceremonies such as sacred rituals, dance performances, portable shrine processions, and children’s parades are held, creating a solemn and sacred atmosphere. In addition, the shrine grounds often feature events related to fortune-telling and items associated with onmyodo (the Way of Yin and Yang) for sale.
