Kamishichiken

Kamishichiken is the oldest entertainment district in Kyoto, located near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. It dates back to the Muromachi period when seven tea houses were originally built to serve those working on the shrine’s construction. Today, Kamishichiken is known for its traditional wooden townhouses and refined tea houses where women skilled in traditional Japanese dance, music, and arts entertain guests. The district offers a peaceful, elegant atmosphere and is a place where visitors can experience the sophisticated culture of Kyoto. Various cultural performances and festivals are held throughout the year.
