If you’re looking for early cherry blossoms in Kyoto, you must visit the “Harumeki-zakura” at the former Seitoku Junior High School.
What is it?: A special variety of cherry blossoms that bloom much earlier than the famous Somei-Yoshino.
Peak Season: Usually mid-March (about a week or two before the main season).
The Highlight: These flowers have a distinct, sweet fragrance and fluffy, pink petals.
Location: It’s located along the walls of an old school building, offering a peaceful, local atmosphere away from the massive crowds.
The contrast between the historic school building and the pale pink blossoms leaning over the sidewalk is breathtaking.
