Trial Pulling for the Gion Festival’s Ato-matsuri (Latter Festival).
Mounted on my trusted partner, the α7C II, is my favorite FE 35mm F1.4 GM. My target: the Takayama float.
The 35mm focal length authentically captures everything in a single frame—from the overwhelming presence of the float looming over Kyoto’s narrow alleyways, to the crowd’s energy, cheers, and even the sweat dripping from their brows.
The buttery background bokeh created by the F1.4 maximum aperture brings out the beauty of the traditional timber framing, alongside the heavy creak of the wheels.
Unlike the flamboyance of the Saki-matsuri (Former Festival), the Ato-matsuri carries a quiet dignity, breathing with the deep affection of the local community. Through my viewfinder, the true essence of Kyoto’s summer begins—quietly, yet powerfully.
