Kyoto’s summer comes alive with the Gion Festival. As the Saki-matsuri (Former Festival) Yamahoko Procession concludes safely on July 17th, the Shijo area barely pauses to savor the lingering excitement before shifting its face—from motion to stillness, and back into a new surge of motion.
This time, I took my camera to capture this striking transition: the efficient dismantling of the Saki-matsuri floats, side-by-side with the beginning of the Ato-matsuri (Latter Festival) float assembly.
My gear for the day was the highly mobile SONY α7C II, paired with the FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II—a telephoto zoom featuring half-macro capabilities across its entire focal range.

“A second-generation telephoto zoom G Lens that achieves the outstanding optical performance, AF speed, and operability unique to G Lenses in a compact, lightweight design—featuring half-macro capabilities and teleconverter compatibility.”
