Heisei Onnaboko Sayanekai is a cultural organization formed with the aim of preserving and promoting Gion Hayashi (traditional festival music) by female musicians, while fully respecting the historical traditions of Kyoto’s Gion Festival—where yamaboko float rituals have traditionally been limited to men. While participation of women as musicians remains restricted in many float communities due to historical reasons, this organization was founded by passionate women under the shared vision of “playing beautiful Gion Hayashi with women’s hands and passing down these traditional melodies to future generations.”
